Introduction
A system is a collection or combination of related parts that relies
on each part to do its job for the entire system to work. Consider
the work of a car. You need more than four good tires to make a car
move. Look under the hood of the car and you will find an incredible
complex organization of interdependent systems that work together
to make the car run.
Your own body is a combination of systems. Have you ever thought
about why and how you breathe? How you walk and talk and think? We
are told to eat the right foods, drink plenty of water, get a good
night’s rest and get plenty of exercise, but why? Have you ever
questioned why this is so important? How well would our bodies work
if we did not do these things? Or what if we did these things right
for all the systems but one? How would this affect the work of the
other systems?
In this WebQuest, we are going to look "under the hood"
and explore our own body’s systems.
